Nutmeg: A Fighter Till The End

Nutmeg was PTS at 3.15pm on 26 September 2009

*******************************************************

Nutmeg came to me on 24 May 2009, as a rescued hamster. I was told that Campbells are a territorial breed. And that resulted in several finger-wars with her. Nevertheless, both of us had grown to like those wars. It's our way of bonding, I guess.

Everything was going very well for her. Until I discovered a lump at her rear end a few days ago. Upon closer inspection, then I knew it didn't bode well for her. And she might have to go under the knife to remove it. So I brought her to the vet on the afternoon of 26 Sept 2009.

The vet's diagnosis was very bad - that lump was her uterus. It had slipped out of her body via her vulva. This cud be due to pregnancy or internal infection. The latter seems very likely. Altho surgery cud gave her a 50% chance to live, the operation itself is risky.

With that, I decided to put her to sleep.

RIP, Nutmeg, my feisty ger. Gonna miss "fighting" with you.

Nutmeg: View at Your Own Risk

A few days ago I noticed that Nutmeg's rear end is in a dark-red-brown color. As she is behaving, eating & sleeping normally, I didn't do much. But did tell myself to take a closer look during the weekend.

This morning I took that closer look and discovered a growth in the shape of a mushroom. Est 1cm long. So will be bringing her to the vet later in the afternoon. Had a feeling that it has to be removed.

The last time I handled her was in mid Aug, to clip her nails. Back then, there's no growth. That I am sure. Altho I didn't handle her thereafter, I really didn't see/notice that growth. Until a few days ago. But again the size of the growth tells me that it's been there for a while. And it was also only today that I saw her "attacking" that growth.

IRL, the growth doesn't look that hideous. But on film, it is super gross.

2009 2009

is an auspicious day to move house.

I've FINALLY bot an OVO Loft for Snowie. Cos the NPF cage with the BIG hideout and sand box, she simply had no floor area.

And it was huge manz!!!! The Ovo Loft. I was shocked when I first set eyes on it. But it'll be an investment. Cos it'll be the home for all the Syrians I'll be keeping.

Then Nutmeg took over Snowie's NPF cage. A perfect size. And I might add a 2nd deck for her.

And Mae took over Nutmeg's Habitrail Cage.

I was supposed to throw away one of these cages. But I decided to use it for Evie. So now she has TWO cages.

And I'll be using this cage for both Evie & Mae.

Housing Updates

Evie & Nutmeg
The abv two cages belong to Evie (bottom) & Nutmeg (top). Initially I bot the green cage for Evie. But it's a tad too big for her, esp the wheel. So I switched with Nutmeg. The 2nd deck in Evie's cage belongs to Nutmeg's cage. But Nutmeg is not making *full* use of it. So I use it for Evie.

Mae & Snowie
These two cages belong to Mae (top) and Snowie (bottom). As Snowie loves climbing among all, I will give her the 2nd deck to see how it goes.

Fresh Foods II

I served these veges to the gers last nite - organic alfalfa sprouts, leafy veges from the mixed salad pack, bitter gourd and brocolli.

But I only managed to catch Evie & Nutmeg at the food dish. Snowie was STILL fast asleep in the hideout.

As usual, Mae ignore the temptation of fresh foods. Yet I did catch her digging into her dry mix.

Toilet Manners II

Continue from here.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is Evie's during the day. She'll only poo during the night. So the next morning, I'll clear it again.

This is Nutmeg's. Same as Evie, only poo during the night. But she pees the most.

This is Mae's, as clean as ever. But she'll pee-poo at the tube. Since the last change, there has been no stench in her bedding. It's either she pees very little. Or the bedding has good odor-control.

For this week, the gers' bedding is Carefresh.
